Living and Working In St Martin

Hello Precious People,

I am considering living and working on the island as an EU Citizen (British). Will I be able to exercise my treaty rights there so that family members can join me?

Thanks

Please check with your nearest French embassy.

Hello there

Yes you will as French Saint Martin is an integral part of the EU, just like mainland France. I am British, my wife is a non-EU citizen from another Caribbean island and we "got through" as they say here.

The process takes a long time so make sure you apply for your family members' cartes de sejour as soon as you are eligible. We arrived in August, applied in November and my wife got her temporary papers in July. She could not leave the island in all that time, and still doesn't have her state health insurance card (I don't know what would happen if she got sick, if we could pay and be reimbursed or what). The French administration is very slow in this regard and requires lots of trips to the prefecture (the queues begin at 5am, some people sleep there to be first).

Good luck

I am also thinking of relocating. I am an EU citizen. When I lived in france for 1 year, the process was very simple. The border guard did not even ask my purpose, but waived me through. Will it be that easy in St. Martin as well?
