Open note to Barbara

I finally got around to reading your 'back in the day boat blog' and I think it's one of the best yet. All of us who 'think' we know St Maarten should take a few minutes and enlighten ourselves.

Thanks to you and to the gardener for sharing these thoughts and rekindling other memories long forgotten.

Respectfully,

pat

hi pat
thanks so much. the gardener and I had a lot of fun remembering and writing.. Well, he remembered and I wrote.
So much of our history is lost. We try to remember the best we can.

Here is the link in case anyone is interested in reading it.

The Boy Scouts in the St Louis area have been video taping veterans talking about their war experiences. What's the chance some group could start doing the same things with older St Maarten residents? Perhaps a journalism class at high school or the college? Seems like it be a worthwhile project for a new country to remember their roots and history.

That would be a great idea, Norm. A great project for our young people

Barbara,

Norm's made a great suggestion.....persue this if you can, B

So much 'first hand' history is lost with every passing generation - it was the rare occasion when I could get my Dad to actually talk about his personal experiences and memories of his WWII service in the South Pacific but when he did, it was far more interesting than the lines we read in history books.

If your young people take on this project and can get it recorded it becomes a living history and so much more interesting, IMO.

Thanks for entertaining the thought........and knowing you, for the reality down the road.

Respectfully,

pat

Wonderful history. In a perfect world this would be taught in schools. History is so important to a country to maintain it's Pride.
Thanks for sharing. I really enjoyed the article.
