My wife and I are going to St.Maarten in February (16 - 23). We are staying at the Divi Little Bay Beach Resort. Being a musician I would like to know if there are opportunities to hear some local musicians in clubs during that time. Are there eny carvivals in February? Also, is there public transportation or do you have to rent a vehicle to get around.

SUNSET BEACH BAR IS THE FIRST CHOICE

there is carnival on the french side, starting Feb 11, I think, and ending whenever ASh Wednesday is this year.
ask at your hotel activities desk what else is happening that week that you are here
Axum in Philipsburg has regular musical nights with local musicians.. check their schedule
King Beau Beau our calypso king appears regualarly at Lynette's
there are local bands at Pedro's and Boo Boo Jam on Orient Beach
Iguana Soup, another local band, plays at Boatthouse on fridays, I think

there is a great Latin band, called Banda Mix, which plays at the Dolphin casino

When you go out to casinos or restaurants do people dress up with jacket and tie or are things more informal?

Rent a car!!!! It's cheap and a great way to see this 37 sq mile island...You need to see all of those BEEEYOUTIFULL beaches!

For nights out:
Dress is neat & casual...Men, Dockers slacks and nice shirt (long sleeve-lightweight, if you expect to be in a cool place) kinda thing...Ladies, nice sundresses or similiar attire (bring a light sweater as some places really crank up the AC).
NO TIES
NO JACKET

Daywear is neat and comfy...[e.g. sandals, sneakers, shorts, shirts, bathing suits (or not if you're going to Orient Beach)]

Got room to pack a passenger in your luggage?

Is there a website that gives current band listings on St Maarten? Island 92 and Pearl 98 don't seem to have listings on their websites if you happen to miss the on-air announcements.
