Dear All,

Is the process of registering a car which comes from outside the EU (ie it is
a model not sold in the EU) on the French side easier than in the Metropole?

In Europe it is quite a struggle to register a US-imported car (one has to get emissions and noise tests, change the indicator lamps from red to orange, etc.)

I have a US-made Nissan Xterra (this model is not sold anywhere in Europe) which I will be bringing with me to SXM from Abu Dhabi, hence my concern... I would be grateful for any light you could shed on this issue.

Best regards,

Filip

there is no import tax. call tropical shipping and they can tell you what you need to ship and have the car released to you

Does anyone know if it is difficult register a car on French side if it is bought on the Dutch side?
Also noticed a lot of French side residents are driving with Dutch plates -any particular reason for that?

No custom fee, tax or whatever.... You will need the bill of lading, the tittle, the bill of sale.

Kind Regards,
Philippe

Hello there,

So a US-made car can enter the EU (French side) tax-free via Saint Martin? For the technique, if I bring in a car with red rear indicators like in the US, and without rear fog lights, can I pass the technique or do I need to do more inspections?

What about Dutch side, could I get a US car (being a UK citizen) into the Dutch side, tax-free, then into the Netherlands and if I return to the UK, could I bring the car back from "The Netherlands" to London?

Hello ,
Is there any restriction on the age of a vehicle, or added taxes depending on the age of the car that is imported into St Maarten?

Thankyou for a prompt reply.

I will ship my car up to SXM from Curacao, I have a UK (EU) passport. I shall have the Curacao release paperwork and ownership docs and told I shall collect the car from the shipping agents warehouse in SXM.

Question:- Am I able to register the car in my name either French side or Dutch, either side doesn't matter to me?
Thanks in advance

I wonder the same as Turbo. It would be awesome if this was possible. I'll be visiting st. Martin for about 4 months in the Fall and I'd love to ship my car too if it's not too much of a hassle to legally drive it there.

HELLO,

I am shipping cars for commercial use to SXM, I already have the company register,

To receive the cars at the port the papers should be under the company name or my personal name?

thank you!!
