Rhoda,

I've never stayed here but I did check it out on a few occasions for friends who were considering it and felt it was a great place. I've also had breakfast there on more occasions than I can remember - a great little spot and your breakfast hosts make the meal almost an occasion. The pool deck offers one of the best views in St. Maarten, IMHO. It's in the hills with lots of privacy and peace and yet minutes away from many of the islands best beaches and restaurants along with one of the many SXM casinos literally not much more than a stones throw away. I can't imagine you'd be disappointed here and it's still one of the more reasonably priced properties on the Dutch side of the island. Sometimes there are promotions through the airlines with packaged stays and I've seen coupons in the Entertainment Book, also.

pat
:-)

Stayed at the Summit in March of this year. We had apartment #1--gorgeous panoramic views of the bay. Our apartment had a very large master bedroom upstairs with full bathroom, and a second bedroom upstairs with two beds--second floor had balcony. Downstairs had another full bath, living room with double sliding glass doors, dining room, full kitchen with all appliances and another balcony on this floor. There is a safe in the upstairs second bedroom, but it just sits on the floor of closet--not bolted down, so anyone could walk away with it!? There's a "guard" at the entry at night who lifts and lowers the entry gate, though he never checked or asked if we stayed there. Pool area with Kissing Fish bar/restaurant which had great breakfasts and good pizza. Never ate much else there, but fabulous frozen drinks and met great people as well as the owners there. All in all, we always felt safe there (three women traveling together) and we loved the place. Go and enjoy!

Thanks for the comments pat and Anon, I will try to get #1 if we stay there.
I was concerned about the safely of the place. Can you tell me exactly where it is located? Can you walk to the beach? Is it clean and modern? We have 2 kids, is the pool nice?

Perfectly safe, with a guard at the entrance. You cannot walk to the beach, as it's high atop the lagoon. Hence "Summit"!

The pool is great for kids. Clean and well maintained.

as stated, we never felt unsafe or uncomfortable at any time. The medical school is nearby, lots of students in area. Very close to Maho and nightlife. Not great with directions, hopefully someone else can help you with that. You COULD walk to Mullet beach, but with 2 kids, I would suggest driving--couple of minutes drive to Mullet. No beach directly at Summit, but close to lots of others. Pool was nice--quiet and clean with beautiful views from the pool deck. Summit was clean--little older, but well maintained from what we observed.

My wife and I have enjoyed the accomdations at Summit for 8 years. We have taken a whole raft of friend to the island and they have always enjoyed the place as well. The rooms are private and well equipped. The pool is large, clean and not very crowded. Thierry and Chloe at the Kissing Fish make every trip enjoyable. They are the perfect host and hostess.

The area is safe and as someone else said, there is students around quite a bit. Every one of them seems to have a great story about how they ended up in St. Maarten going to medical school.

As in most areas of the island, travel on foot after dark isn't recommended. Everyplace is quite accessable by car from the Summit however.

We stay at Unit #6 and have always had a great view and have made many friends. Enjoy yourself!!!

I haven't stayed at the Summit but at Arbor Estates which is close by. If you are driving through Maho going toward the French side, go past the Atlantis casino and at the top of the hill (by the Inn at Cupecoy) turn right and follow that road past Arbor Estates and Trade Winds. Keep going on that road, not far, and you will come to the Summit. It's a great location - near Maho's restaurants, Mullet Bay Beach for the kids and not too far from the airport.
