Croque Monsieur

Bonjour, my husband and I have just returned from a few weeks in France, where we fell in love with this lovely little snack, Croque Monsieur.
I can't wait to eat it again, hopefully this Christmas in St.Martin.
Does anybody know where we might find it, perhaps a bar/cafe in Marigot?
thanks
Carol

You might try la vie en rose in Marigot overlooking the harbor and market. They used to offer it on the lunch menu a few years ago and it was every good.

there are a couple of places in the Port Royal Marina in Marigot that serve it.
just walk around there and check out the menus.

Barbara,

I had one of these sandwiches two or three years ago at Friar's Bay Beach Cafe and it was absolutely out of this world. Was it the sandwich or the setting? Who knows? Who cares? But I have to tell you, they are heart stoppers in every way. Literally, to die for......but what a way to go.

yea, pat, I know what you mean.

thank you everybody,

I found the recipe in a cookbook called Barefoot in Paris by Ina Gartner.

It's full of gruyere and parmesan, and of course ham. Then dipped in the cheese
and sauted.

Can you feel your arteries clogging, but like you said, what a way to go.!

Again, thanks.

This is one of my favorites as well
You can get them at TAP 5 ( the restaurant/deli bar one ) on OB
I am sure also that you can get them in any of the snack places in Marigot.

You can get Croque Monsieur at practically any place in Marigot Marina. I have had them at several and if it's not on the menu, you can ask them if they will make you one.
Just had one here on the Dutch side at Where's Ivan on Welfare Road at Plaza del Lago at Simpson Bay Yacht Club. Very good!!
Cheers

You can find the best Croque Monsieur at La Croissanterie which is at Marina Port Royale right next to Saint Germaine. My son & his wife will drive there everyday from the Dutch side when they are here just to have one of those sandwiches. They even try to duplicate them at home but they claim the bread isn't the same. La Croissanterie also has the best crab salad sandwich on fresh baked rolls.

ENJOY!!!!

Awesome, thanks, I know exactly where you mean.
I am going to attempt the recipe that I found and hope
that tieds me over until Dec 9th.
Thanks again,
Carol

Not all Croque monsr use egg in their recipe. The Croque Monsr's that I have had in St. Martin and even cooked at home do not use egg at all which is good because I cannot eat eggs. The best that we have had is the same place Sharon mentioned at the Marina which is La Croissanterie. They happen to use deliciously fresh French bread verses one we had elsewhere where it was extremely bland, especially the bread.

I'm not sure if egg is required for the Croque Monsieur but the Croque Madame has a fried egg on top.
