st. barts

I was thinking of heading over to St. Barts next month while we are down in SXM. What is the best way to get around and see the sights. Is it best to rent a car or to get a taxi to act as a tour guide. What would be the expected cost of renting a car vs. getting an all day taxi?

Thanks

From what I've heard, you're better off hiring a guy that knows his way around and just have him meet you at designated times at various sites.

I'd study a map beforehand, and rent a car...hard to get lost on an 8 sq. mile island.

With a decent map it's easy finding your way around. Just be careful as the roads are about the narrowest I've seen. Beautiful island though.

sabwjz,

Okay, first let me qualify my statements by saying that it's been a while since we've ventured over to St. Barth's but each time we've gone we've rented a car and it never seemed outrageously expensive to me but there were generally two couples involved and the car was a 'shared' expense.

We never had a problem getting around the island and I'm thinking we probably saw more in being "lost" than we ever would have by being "taken" from point to point. I would definitely opt for the map and the self drive experience but yes, the roads are narrow - part of the charm, IMHO, and as mcinnamon said, the island is quite beautiful and more than worth a visit if you've never been there.
