Where to find an apartment

Hi All:
Thank god I found this site.
I am soon to be one of the med school crowd on St. Maarten and have a few questions.

Which is the best way to find an apartment on st.maarten
Also from reading the posts it seems immpossible for my wife to get a job there for the 2 yrs while I'm at school.

Last thing. We have 2 dogs. 70lbs labs. How do I get them onto the island transportation wise. I understand only small planes go to the island and these dogs wont fit in the luggage hold.
Thanks in advance
Jer

Jer
first of all, the easy thing..
where are you coming from?
there are big jets that come here.
if you have to come via Puerto Rico, then it is more of a problem.
I believe only one jet a day arrives from PR..
it's best to come through NYC and get a direct flight..
you will have to pay a fortune for those dogs but it can be done..
start calling the airlines....

It's true.. your wife cannot work..at least not legally..while she is here.
she can either work off the books if someone would hire her or she can get involved in volunteer work.....

once you get here, let her look around and make some contatcs.. Usually something turns up.

as far as apartments, doesn't AUC help with that?? If not, the best thing to do is get in touch with a real estate agency like Remax and have them look for you.

good luck!

Hi Jer,
You can always post and look around at the AUC chat board. www.valuemd.com

They have listings sometimes and it may help.

Cheers

My ex-husband went to AUC. we found an apart. at the Tradewinds at Cupecoy. (Walking distance to AUC). ALthough they were quite expensive. I think since then AUC has furnished dorms and they accomodate married couples/families as well.
I found 2 bartending jobs right away...then got a job teaching school. As for bringing dogs over, I'm not sure. I took in a stray dog when I moved there. I was actually trying to find out if he's still around. He hangs out by Andre's internet cafe and citrus cafe. Let me know if he you her. It's a weimeraner dog. (brownish/grey color).

Good luck with everything.
