You can save yourself money by not going to the Grand Marche first. There are many small local grocery stores that look like American "convenience stores" all over the island. Many, but not all, are Asian owned. They generally have MUCH lower prices on essentially the same staples you will get at the Grand Marche. So when you go shopping, hit one of the local groceries first, buy what is on your list, then go to the Grand Marche and get what you could not find.
For liquor, the Grand Marche is more expensive as well. Again, try one of the little places on the island.
You won't find fresh meats at the local groceries for the most part, but the frozen chicken we bought was shipped from......Georgia, USA.
We are SXM bound in a few short weeks!!! I can't wait to experience this island for the first time. We are staying at the Little Divi Bay in a studio and plan to buy limited groceries at Grand Marche (I was told it's right down the road). Basically looking for cheese, lunchmeats, breads, some veggies and fruits. Our plan is to have a light breakfast in the morning in our room...and if we are on property have a picnic style grazing lunch. Dinner out everynight and lunch as well if we are out exploring.
Will I be able to find everything I want at GM? Where are the best places to purchase liquor? Breads? I appreciate any and all feedback. Thanks much!!
I am moving to the medical school dorms from the US and I wanted to see if anyone knows if I can buy quality household items there like pots/ pans/ plates/ silverware/ knives/ rug/ Brita/ towels? Thank you!
Hello,
We are going to St. Martin/Marteen the day after Thanksgiving. Can anyone tell me if they have ever found TOFU on the Island? We are vegetarians and will be bringing rice/dahl, spices, etc. But would like TOFU without having to go to FISH. Though i know its crazy to be on an Island where there is lots of wonderful fish around.
Thanks for your help.
