Sapphire Beach Club

Hi everyone, I just found this site today. My wife and I will be heading back to the island in June. We have a timeshare at Sapphire but haven't been back in years (been doing the RCI deals). We have seen quite a few negative remarks about the resort in the past few years but we don't remember it that way. Has it gone down hill

Can anyone share some truth about Sapphire?

Thanks!

We own at the Sapphire and have met so many wonderful friends. We are leaving this Saturday for one Month. The units are absolutely beautiful! The bathrooms are marble. The Kitchens have granite countertops. We have oceanview with a Jacuzzi on our deck. The staff have been good to us. I am not sure what kind of problems you are talking? Sully

We own two weeks at Sapphire, a one bedroom apt. with a view of the sea (with a jacuzzi) and Simpson Bay lagoon is the view from our bedroom.

Any problems we've ever had were fixed immediately. Maintenance reponds quickly. They have a very small beach....sometimes. You will need to go to Cupecoy or Mullet or somewhere else for that. I understand they have a new restaurant there.

Everything sully said is what I would have told you. It's beautiful and has a gated parking garage, too.

We own 2 wks also at the Sapphire. There was a time when the resort did have some negative feedback. They did lose their Gold Crown Rating with RCI but they are coming back up to par. They've fixed many of the problems (mostly managements lack of concern) such as replacing furniture, repairs, maintenance and front desk attitudes. We, personally haven't had any serious problems to speak of, and what we did have was taken care of quickly.
The resort has a great restaurant, superette, spa, computer room and pool area. Within walking distance of great restaurants, casinos and beach. They don't have a beach to speak of. Lost that during Hurricane Luis. Enjoy the resort.

I will also be staying at Sapphire this May. We booked it through Wyndham directly. I noticed on their website that it mentions there is only a bath tub in the room so I am assuming there is no shower. Can you tell me if that is the case. Thanks.

There is a shower in the tub, but there are no walls around the tub for a shower surround. This can result is water on the slippery ,marble floor, so be careful.
We have not found this to be a major problem.
have fun!

And lots of soaking wet towels to mop up that water! It looks to me as if the shower thing was a last minute decision and that the original design included only a tub.

My spin on the Sapphire,
We have owned since 94. On the upside; We have a great time there. The rooms, maid service, general staff and facility are very nice.
The down side is they let little things go and a lot of little thing add up to the overall apperence or feel such as our jaccuzi sounds like a NASA launch complete with stuff falling off if it, No shower curtain (looks like Flipper has been in the tub) Things in common areas could use a coat of paint, Service at the bar is ..... well not stellar but then again you are on island time, We generally get some cups and bring a cocktail down from our room "then" order from the bar. If we want a "great" lunch we walk next door to the Ocean Club (I think that is the correct name).
All in all The Sapphire is very nice and we have a blast when we go. You won't be disapointed.

Re: Tub/shower curtain thing. My understanding is that those tubs without the shower curtains are a European thing and not for lack of $$.

We returned (our 8th visit) to the Saphiere Beach Club in February, 2007.
Our oceanview 1 bedroom room was filthy.
There were tiny ants in the bathroom, on the tub, sink and floor.
We complained repeatedly but this situation was never addressed.
The pillows which smelled from sweat (not ours) were not covered with ticking.
We asked for new pillows or coverings at the least.
This too was not resolved.
The sheets were "neatened" each day but never changed.
One broken lamp light never was never replaced.
The staff at the front desk was unfriendly.
The entire attitude of the hotel, torn slipcovers and toss pillow, and filth of the room, etc., was a far departure of the time share that we purchased and looked forward to visiting each year.
We were told by the sales staff that the rooms would be refurbished, cleaned, and restored this year.
Has anyone recently visited the Saphire Beach and noticed any imrovements?

You mean improvements using the money from the special assessments that some owners paid? I own three weeks there and joined the lawsuit against Sapphire over the payment of the special assessment. I did pay the S.A. on one of my weeks because I sold it and Sapphire will not record a sell without payment of the S.A. I did receive an e-mail from Jerry Hertzenburg (the person who is coordinating the efforts of Sapphire owners over the lawsuit) and there was a preliminary hearing recently, in which owners who are involved in the lawsuit were protected by the judge against having their timeshare re-possessed by Sapphire while the legal action proceeds. If anyone still wants to join the group of owners who are suing, contact Jerry at; grhertzy@houston.rr.com. Only those involved in the lawsuit will receive any money from damages.

We are going again for two weeks in October. We too, have joined the crusade to prevent the illegal assessment fees and hopefully get some answers as to what was being done with the regular maintenance fee.
But, we do look forward to our visits each year, and will try not to let this distract us from a wonderful vacation.
