Its a great place to stay and you could walk to the airport but you really shouldn't and for sure not at night but then you shouldn't be walking much of anywhere at night that isn't busy and well lit and populated. You really need a car to stay here but its one of the nicest off the beach places youll find and the price should be very right that time of year. With the money your saving rent the car for the hole trip.

Flameboy- I haven't stayed there recently (did back in 1987)---but it is nice--and I know that they have done some refurbishing since then---if this is your first time to the island-- the advice almost everyone gives is to rent a car--so you can see the island-- Summit is close to French Beaches such as Baie Longue and Plum----probably closer to Marigot than to P'Burg-----I read from other posts that the Kissing Fish Bar is a happening place at Happy Hour------yes you probably could walk at most- I guess a mile and a half to the Sunset beach Bar- the best place for watching the planes land---but NEVER at night-- if for example you book a deluxe unit at the Summit which has a full kitchen-- the nearest super market -Food Express- in the Maho Village--- is probably a little over a mile---access the Summit's website- if you already haven't to get a better view and feel for the place-- chbpod

Restaurants?? everyone raves about the restaurants on the French side-- notably Grand Case---and tightfully so-----but there are a number in the Cupecoy/Maho area wirth considering-- for up-scale I read that Temptation at the Atlantis Casino is very good---I haven;t tried it-- but love Monmartre also at the Atlantis Casino---in the Maho Village-- Pizza Pasta is low key and excellent--and there are a couple other highly touted restaurants at the Atlantis Casino--and since you are renting a car----the Simpson Bay area has a bunch of recommended restautants-----all this is to say-- you can have a variety of dining experiences in the Cupecoy/Maho/Simpson Bay area-----taste wise and dollar wise---without having to drive all the way to Grand Case and back for an evening out---I am going in May----and expect to try several new restaurants-----
so far from my experience in 2004 & 2005----Monmartre- for fine dining-- Pizza Pasta for great Italian-- as well as La Guna (near the airport_ for more excellent Italian--Sunset Beach Bar has great burgers and swordfish sandwiches---I also hear that the Bucaneer Beach Bar at Simpson Bar is good for burgers as well--------have a great trip-- chbpod

you are conveniently located near the Atlantis Casino area which has a lot of nice restaurants.
to get to the airport, you have to walk through Mullet Bay which you definitely don't want do at night. There is a great beach there, but the hotel is abandoned and the area is dark at night.
after Mullet Bay is the Maho area, which is full of restaurants , shops, bars and a casino.
Renting a car is better and is the best way to get around.

flameboy if you happen to end up at Summit the restraunt there is very good and they have internet to. Its a excellent breakfast choice and the view from the pool is probly one of the prettiest on the island or at lest comparable. Theres a deli around the corner called Citrus Market or Market at Citrus and they make the best sandwishes and fresh pastry every morning and you can pick up other odds and ends there to.

Friends occasionally stay there and they love their breakfasts, also. I think they said that the resort no longer serves dinner.
