Hi folks,
We will be spending a few days on Saba before our time share wk on St. Martin.Any tips on Saba(restaurants , activities etc) We have a day of diving scheduled and a couple of hikes planned. Do we need to rent a car? Ive read it's pretty easy to get around without on but i don't know.

Saba (SAY-bahhh), the roads are not user friendly, use a taxi.

Try the Swinging doors for a cocktail and the Queen's Garden for dinner!

take taxis
its a small island. just ask the locals what to do when you get there. they will steer you in the right direction

We have been coming to SXM since 1992 and have never been to Saba.We will be coming back for 2 weeks the first of October. Since we are not divers would it be worth our time going there? What is there to do? I understand there are no beaches. Do you know if there is shopping? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Everything Neil and Barbara has already said is right on the money.

As to whether it's worth going or not - we waited almost 25 years before making our first trip over and I can only ask myself why did we ever take so long.

Saba is one of the most beautiful and still pristine islands in the Caribbean, IMO. It's a hikers paradise and a photographer's dream. Shopping is not what you go there for other than some of the beautiful lace works and the typical island souveniers and momentos.

We went the first time just so we could say we had been there, and we went back the second time and stayed over for a few nights because it's one of the most peaceful places we'd ever been. Not for action and nightlife seekers but a great place to chill.

For a very 'nice' dinner I'd recommend Queen's Garden Inn and for a fun evening that won't break the bank, definitely the Swinging Door Saloon. The latter is what actually drew us back after our first day-trip. It was posted on the 'swingin' door' they'd be holding a steak barbecue and it sounded like a fun thing and that's what we actually scheduled our stay-over trip around. It truly was a great albeit different island experience and another of those island memories we've filed away.

And half the experience, IMO, is getting to Saba. Whether you choose to go by boat or by air, either option can be an experience but a good one as far as I'm concerned.

I had a great meal at The Kitchen in Windwardside. Really nice owner, too.
